He hurried into the bathroom, over to the basin and turned the taps. He rubbed his hands together, with some soap, under the running water. The clear water turned red, a murky blood red. Looking up into the mirror above the basin, he grimaced. His face was splashed with dirt, sweat and blood. A bruised cut lip and split eyebrow.
Cupping the clean water with both hands, he washed his face, gently rubbing with his hands. The water took away the grime, yet he still didn’t feel clean.
He looked at his clothes, they were grubby with blood and dirt. Instantly, he stripped off his shirt and threw it on the floor. He started the shower, allowing the water to get hot and continued to get undressed, leaving a pile of dirty clothes in a heap.
He stepped into the steaming shower, instantly turning it down as he jumped back from the water. Too hot, his body needed to acclimatise. As the water felt like it had cooled, he turned the hot tap, allowing the hot water to cleanse, relax, his battered and bruised body. The water washed through his hair and he watched the red stained water, today’s dirt, drain away. Once the water was running clear, Face turned off the shower and reached for a towel.
Once he’d dried his body, he wrapped the towel around his waist. His body was clean, but it was going to take more than a hot shower to clear his mind.
